Teapots of different capacities and 'Zisha' clays are suited for different types of tea. We generally recommend using one teapot for each type of tea based on the 'Zisha' clay, and selecting the appropriate teapot capacity according to the characteristics of the tea. The recommendations are as follows:

    Teapot Capacity Suggestions Tea Suggestions
<150 ML Single person Green tea, white tea, yellow tea, lightly fermented oolong, floral teas, light Pu'er. Enhances fragrance and taste for single-person brewing.
150-250 ML 1-3 people Green teas (Longjing, Biluochun), white teas (Bai Mudan, Baihao Yinzhen), yellow teas (Junshan Yinzhen), lightly fermented oolong (Baozhong, Tieguanyin), floral teas, lightly flavored Pu'er.
250-350 ML 4-6 people Medium-fermented oolong (Da Hong Pao, Wuyi Yancha), black teas (Keemun, Dianhong), aged Pu'er, herbal teas (Rose, Chrysanthemum), flavored teas.
350-500 ML 6-8 people Heavily fermented oolong (Tieguanyin, roasted Da Hong Pao), black teas (Dianhong, Lapsang Souchong), aged Pu'er, large-leaf green teas, most aged teas.
    >500 ML Large tea parties/ceremonies Pu'er tea (ripe, aged), black teas (Keemun, Dianhong), heavily roasted oolong (Da Hong Pao, Tieguanyin), herbal teas (Lemongrass, Goji berry), blended teas (Osmanthus Pu'er, Tangerine Pu'er).

    Zisha Clay Tea Suggestions Remarks
Zi Ni A full range of teas, especially dark fermented varieties, including black tea, dark tea, and ripe puerh. Zi ni has larger clay particles and a loose structure, often with a double-hole design for good airflow and ventilation. Ideal for dark, fermented teas, and helps the teapot develop beauty over time.
Duan Ni Green tea, raw puerh, Tie Guan Yin, white tea, and other similar varieties. Duan Ni is a blend of Lv Ni and Zi Ni clays, with a light yellowish color. It’s better suited for lighter-colored teas, and using it for darker teas may cause color streaks, altering the teapot’s appearance.
Lv Ni Puerh tea, lightly roasted oolong tea, semi-fermented teas, dark tea, and heavily fermented teas. Lv Ni has a fine texture with good elasticity and smooth, compact feel. The teapot’s color transforms over time, becoming jade-like, adding elegance and enhancing aroma retention during brewing.
Zhu Ni High-aroma teas, such as oolong tea and strong-flavor Tie Guan Yin. Zhu ni has low sand content and high shrinkage, resulting in small teapots. It’s excellent at retaining the fragrance of high-aroma teas, enhancing the tea’s overall aromatic profile.
Jiangpo Ni Oolong tea (raw tea, lightly roasted series), Tie Guan Yin (medium-roasted or heavily roasted series), Puerh tea. Jiangpo ni has large particles and a reddish-brown color, rich in iron. It has excellent heat retention properties, making the tea more full-bodied and robust with a rich fragrance during brewing.

The design concept of the Fanggu teapot originates from the ancient battlefield drums. The bottom is often flat, and the shoulder of the teapot is tall and imposing, creating a strong presence. The neck is kept short, and the spout forms a straight line. There is a slight gap between the handle and the lid, with the handle shaped like a scaled-down version of the teapot's body. The teapot should exude a sense of force, like a fully inflated leather drum, vivid and realistic. The spirit of the Fanggu teapot is unified in one piece. The body is slightly flattened, and the broad shoulder further accentuates its flatness, giving it an air of dignity and substantiality. The rounded lid knob mirrors the body of the teapot, creating a harmonious and refined look. The mother-and-child line precisely separates the lid from the spout, and the large lid gives it a sense of grandeur.

The enduring popularity of the Fanggu teapot can be attributed to the following reasons:

1.Classic Design: The Fanggu teapot is one of the classic shapes among the many types of Zisha Teapots. This design was created by artisans in the past and has been passed down for hundreds of years to the present day. The teapot features a round, solid neck that contrasts with the downward slope of the shoulder, and its large, flat, and low body gives it a grounded and stable look. The wide spout edge is tightly sealed with a precise mother-and-child line. The lid is flat and full, and the knob is rounded, forming a unique style that is highly favored by tea enthusiasts.

2.Cultural and Aesthetic Appeal: The Chinese scholar-official class has long pursued an inner peace, natural detachment, and an otherworldly lifestyle. Their aesthetic tastes lean towards simplicity, tranquility, and a cold, quiet elegance. Therefore, the Fanggu teapot embodies the highest pursuit of the scholar-official's ideal life with its natural, unadorned, and harmonious design. It represents a perfect expression of "ancient simplicity and elegance," using the "round" form to its fullest. It avoids excessive decoration and beautifully conveys the functional nature of traditional Zisha Teapots.

3.Historical and Auspicious Symbolism: The Fanggu teapot is deeply rooted in rich historical and cultural traditions and is imbued with auspicious meanings. Its exquisite craftsmanship and the positive energy it brings symbolize good fortune, longevity, and happiness. The teapot carries an emotional resonance, while serving as a vessel for both personal reflection and shared appreciation. It becomes a means of expressing feelings and communicating with others, delighting both the person using it and those admiring it.

4.Practicality and Elegance: The Fanggu teapot is not only practical and convenient, but its elegant and dignified appearance makes it easy to maintain. Its simple and unpretentious design appeals to individuals with refined tastes, making it a symbol of the qualities admired by successful people.
